Winter Hike Ryerson Woods Saturday, February 20, 2021 - 1PM to 4PM Ryerson Conservation Area is one of the best examples of a northern flatwoods forest, a rare northern Illinois landscape. The 552-acre Preserve supports some of Illinois' most pristine woodlands and several state-threatened and endangered species. It offers 6.5 miles of scenic trails that wind through a stately forest to the quiet Des Plaines River. The Welcome Center, opened in 2006, features "green" architecture and was designed using LEED standards. We will meet at the Welcome Center and we can hike the winding paths as a group, or we can separate into smaller groups and choose the paths we feel inspired to walk at the time. Please bring your own snacks and drinks. Hopefully, if the weather is co-operative, we can meet mid-way through our day and have a socially distanced get-together to enjoy the snacks we bring. Please note: Due to CoVid-19 restrictions in Lake County, this event is limited to 17 members. If COVID-19 restrictions change, we will adjust the restrictions for this event to comply.
