LSSC Annual Picnic - Saturday, August 10.2024

Saturday August 10, 2024, was a gorgeous day and perfect for the Annual LSSC Picnic. Warm sunny weather with a little wind to make keeping your empty plates napkins and cups on the tables a challenge! We gathered at our traditional location - the Bunker Hill Forest Preserve. We had 30 happy people join us for a day of fun, food, and lots of catching up with friends. .

The day started out with a few dedicated volunteers getting to the picnic grove early to get the site organized and set up. Several more volunteers arrived later and helped with getting all of the food unpacked and set out for everyone. We also had a wonderful group of volunteers to staff the registration desk and get everyone checked in.
As everyone gathered, we shared some appetizers and snacks. Once most people had arrived, we enjoyed a delicious buffet of Fried Chicken, Italian Sausage & Peppers, Baked Beans, Corn on the Cob, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad & Garden salad.
We did have 1 interloper try to join the party when an adventurous deer came by looking so adorable that everyone wanted to either take pictures or feed it. We discouraged the feeding to ensure that the deer remained in his natural habitat and did not help himself to our buffet!!!

After lunch we had cookies and fruit. Michelle and Nicole then rounded up the participants for some fun games. We started out with 2 rounds of Marshmallow Golf, followed by the traditional egg toss and finally the water balloon toss. All of the participants had a wonderful time and provided the rest of the picnic attendees with an opportunity to cheer them on and have a laugh at some mishaps.

After some more snacking, visiting with friends, a wonderful group of volunteers helped with clean-up.
It was a great picnic!
