2019 Mexican Dinner - Fri-. Aug. 23

Oaxaca is a city in central Mexico, famous for its dialect, colonial architecture and a cuisine that boasts seven varieties of mole sauce.  Without dragging a suitcase to O’Hare, some 27 members made an effortless trip to Oaxaca with dinner at Kie-Gol Lanee restaurant on August 23.

We sampled countless plates, served family style, offering mushroom-stuffed tamales, pork roasted in banana leaves, grilled chicken and fish, garnished with pumpkin and sesame seeds. The house version of pizza included grilled tortillas, piled with roasted veggies and skirt steak. Lamb shank, Cornish hen in a mole sauce and roasted cod left no protein-lover malnourished. Flan arrived as the sweet finale; thirst was quenched all evening with house-made Margarita mix, emboldened by BYOB tequila.

Conversation drifted around topics of travel, including rave reviews of the recent bike trip to Madison and the upcoming kayak/paddle board outing to Montrose Beach.
