What a great way for LSSC members and friends to celebrate the first day of spring — by exploring 2 Chicago Bungalow Historic Districts, 2 green spaces and the new Chicago Public Library Northtown Branch.
The tour featured excellent, classic examples of Chicago brick bungalows and how they evolved from 1920 to 1930. The neighborhood also includes a few homes connected to 1920’s Chicago gangsters and their associated rivalries and killings. We even covered Mediterranean, Spanish and Tudor revival homes. By including the Northtown CPL Branch we shared a century of architecture with the group. The innovative library by Perkins & Will includes 44 senior housing units—providing an environment for life-long learning.
LSSC member summarized her tour experience this way: “Thank you so much for the tour today. It was very interesting and informative. You put a lot of time and energy into this tour. And we had perfect weather to boot!” Larry moved to the neighborhood when he was 7 years old, so for him the tour was a trip down memory lane.
