About this event

Join us in making a difference by helping sort and organize donations at our warehouse! Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring that food and non-food items are distributed to those who need them most.
As a warehouse volunteer, you will:
• Sort through incoming donations of food and non-food items
• Check items for quality and safety
• Organize and box donations by item type
• Assist in keeping the warehouse clean and orderly
Requirements:
• Ability to stand for the majority of the shift
• Comfort with occasionally lifting up to 15 lbs
• Closed-toed shoes are required for safety
• Wear comfortable clothing that could get a little messy
This is a hands-on opportunity where your efforts directly support individuals and families in need. Your time and energy will help keep operations running smoothly and donations moving quickly into the community.
About Nourishing Hope:
55 years ago, a small, dedicated group of women – Jo Bolger, Kate Marshall, and Barbara Langer-Tchaou – began a grassroots effort to help their neighbors in the Lakeview community. In their first year of operation, this small but mighty group – The People’s Pantry of Lakeview – collected food from local churches and temples, and held weekly drives at Treasure Island, Jewel and Evergreen Groceries. They served just under 100 people in 1970!
Today, Nourishing Hope employs more than 60 staff, has over 7,000 volunteers, and serves residents living throughout Chicago. In addition to home deliveries, Online Market orders, and dozens of community partnerships, they also provide critical social services including mental health counseling, job search support and housing assistance.
The communal work that embodied the early efforts of Lakeview Pantry is still strong today. As the hunger need in our city continues to grow and evolve, Nourishing Hope has adapted to meet that need. They are continually evaluating their programming with the ultimate vision of a city where all people have the resources needed for a dignified life.
