Completed in 1910, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House in Hyde Park is one of the most admired houses in the world. It is considered Wright’s crowning achievement in the Prairie Style – the distinctive style of architecture that developed in Chicago beginning about 1900.
Our private group tour will be led by LSSC member Tim Thurlow, who has been a docent at the Robie House for the past five years. We will view both the exterior and interior of the house, including the extraordinary living room surrounded by Wright’s distinctive stained glass windows.
The tour is limited to eight people in order to maintain social distancing within the house. The tour will also include a look at buildings nearby: the Booth School of Business building (2004) by Rafael Viñoly across the street that reflects both the architecture of the Robie House and of the University of Chicago quadrangle; and the Albert Michaelson house next door (1926) – a return to the picturesque architecture that Wright loathed.
Note: Robie House Tour will go “rain or shine.”
Please note: Due to CoVid-19 social distancing restrictions within the house, this tour is limited to 8 members.
