Tour the 'Wild Mile' via Boardwalk and Kayak or Pontoon Boat: 
           Saturday, September 26, 2026 (Event Reschedule)

The Wild Mile is a mile of floating gardens which have created biodiversity and changed the entire landscape along the river.  It is attracting new wildlife and creating new spaces along what was a dead river to become engaging with the community. 

Meet at The Wild Mile at 2:45 pm.  The Wild Mile is located at 1550 N. Kingsbury Street.  There is plenty of parking.  

Stephen Meyers, Field Operations, (Urban Rivers) will provide a 45-minute walking tour. Urban Rivers works in partnership with the City of Chicago Planning and Development, Community groups, and corporations to create a scientifically-driven, eco-park to bring back diversity and wildlife to the Chicago river.  The North Branch Framework envisioned a 17 acre in-stream park and builds on the vision of a renewed urban ecology for the City of Chicago and help to generate cleaner healthier water and more vibrant wildlife ecosystems. 

We will enter the water on your choice of kayak or pontoon boat  right after the waking tour.   

Dinner is at 5:15 pm at Jiang Niu BBQ House right around the corner. 

Cost: Free to Register on the LSSC Website. Donation to Urban Rivers required. We suggest a $100 donation to The Wild Mile. You can make a donation using the link below here: https://urbanrivers.org/donate.  Urban Rivers is a 501(c) (3) so this will be a taxable write off.
