Bike the IL Prairie Path - Geneva Spur
Get on the Waitlist -- We may form a second group on this ride.
NEW MEETING POINT FOR THE RIDE!!!
Glen Ellyn Library, 400 Duane St, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137; (NOT the Metra Station). Park at the back portion of the lot. Library will be closed. No porta-toilet nearby—plan accordingly.
We’ll meet & park at the Library in downtown Glen Ellyn right beside the trail. This trail is a great way to get to know the western suburbs & experience the Fox River at Geneva. Possible brunch opportunities in Geneva or in Glen Ellyn after the ride.
The one-way distance is 8.6 mi.; 17.2 mi. round-trip—with options to add on other IPP legs or head east to Lombard after the return to Glen Ellyn—an added 20.2 mi. round-trip or 37.4 miles for overall total. (Trail surfaces include asphalt, concrete & crushed stone.)
The majority of the overall 58.4 mile route runs on the former right-of-way of the Chicago Aurora and Elgin Railroad. The 1963 letter from May Theilgaard Watts that led to formation of this trail is widely regarded as the first proposal in America that eventually led to widespread rail-to-trails land use.
