Marquette, MI XC and Downhill Ski! - Friday, February 14 - Monday, February 17

Ten intrepid Lakeshore skiers made their way to Marquette, Michigan for President’s day weekend.  Marquette has been averaging as much as 200 plus inches of snow a year and is one of the snowiest city’s in the continental U.S. and it knows how to celebrate winter! We were greeted by start of the UP200 dog sled race that began Friday evening just outside of the Ramada hotel where we stayed.  360 plus dogs in Sled teams of 12 from as far away as Alaska participated on a night that got down below zero.   But that didn’t deter us or the Marquette crowd that stood 3 deep along Washington Street that cheered the teams off.

The weather for skiing was much better and we enjoyed the well-groomed trails at Blueberry  Ridge and the Forestville/Noque trail systems just outside of town. And not to forget Marquette Mountain where Monica Courson and Marty Monaghan spent a day of down-hill skiing.

We are also happy to report that we ate very well with dinner, lunch, and breakfasts at a couple of very creative restaurants and bakeries in this vibrant college town.  It is a ski town that we encourage others to check out.
