The hills are alive with the sound of music. After a 30-year hiatus, LSSC is going to the picturesque town of Kitzbuhel, with an optional extension to Mozart's charming town of Salzburg.
We will depart on Saturday January 24 flying O'Hare-Munich nonstop on Lufthansa, arriving midday Sunday*. A short 1½ to 2 hour bus ride puts us in Kitzbuhel by mid afternoon. Note: We are arriving a day later than normal due to World Cup Race Weekend.
We will be staying at four-star hotel Maria Theresia, conveniently located a few minutes walk from the old town center. The hotel has a huge buffet breakfast and four-course dinner with salad bar daily. Their spa has a sauna, Jacuzzi, steam room etc. A town bus stop is a block away. Also expect LSSC's normal wine parties. Please note lift tickets are not included but are reasonably priced at approx 32 Euros ($48.00) a day for a 5-day ticket.
Kitzbuhel has made a major investment in snowmaking. It has over 600 snow cannons covering 66 km of groomed runs. It has 56 lifts including a spectacular gondola that is 3 km long and transports 3200 skiers per hour. The area offers a wide variety of activities, including 120 km of cross country trails, many hiking trails and easy train excursions. It only takes one hour to get to the Olympic town of Innsbruck and buses operate thru the valley connecting small villages and various lift systems. The town boasts a wide variety of museums including a re-creation of a Tyrolean farmhouse from the 1800s and a cable car museum with a ski-racing simulator. There are several old churches worth exploring.
On Saturday the 31st we will take a 1½ - 2 hour scenic ride thru the Tyrolean countryside to the Mozart-flavored town of Salzburg. Non-extenders will be routed by bus to Munich Airport and fly Munich - O'Hare nonstop*.
In Salzburg, we will stay three nights at four-star Hotel Gablerbrau located adjacent to the old town just across the Salzach River. Three buffet breakfasts are included.
Salzburg has a very well preserved and very baroque "old town". It's ideal for walking the narrow cobblestone streets and admiring the quaint shops. Mozart's birthday on January 27th creates the occasion for a festival during our stay . See www.salzburg.info - click on music. High above the old town is one of Europe's largest medieval castles, Fortress Hohensalzburg. Numerous other tours are to be had including "The Sound of Music Tour."
We will depart Salzburg late Tuesday morning February 3rd with a 2 hour bus ride to Munich Airport and fly nonstop Munich-O'Hare on Lufthansa arriving 6:30 p.m.*.
This is great trip for an outstanding price!
* Note flights are subject to change and may also be subject to additional fuel charges.
