Introduction: LSSC Racing Program
Greetings! After participating in the LSSC ski race program for the past two years, I will now be leading the program this year, succeeding Gerry Gall. For those of you who don’t know me, I first joined the club two years ago both to attend the CMSC Telluride trip and to get involved in the race program.
Skiing since the age of four, I began racing slalom and giant slalom on my high school ski team, ultimately winning a place on the NJ All State team my senior year. I continued racing in college on the Lehigh University ski team and periodically raced from time to time for a few years after.
Now, after about a 10 year racing hiatus, I am thoroughly enjoying the exhilaration of flying down a racecourse again. There is no better feeling than beating your past race times to achieve a new personal best. I encourage those of you who haven’t raced in a while to get back into it and for those who have never tried it to give it a go. It is only as competitive as you want it to be – remember that you go through the course at your own pace and skill level.
If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at racing@lssc.org or give me a call at 773-706-4609. Looking forward to seeing you all on the slopes!
Thank you,
Wendy Rand

LSSC Racing Program Q&As
Lately there has been a chill in the air and you know what that means...ski season is just around the corner! For those eager skiers who are already thinking about getting their skis tuned, I wanted to remind you about our Alpine Racing Program. LSSC is one of the few clubs that has a racing program. Racing will not only help you make quantum leaps in your skiing ability in a relatively short period of time, but it is a lot of fun.
Do I have to be an experienced racer or skier to participate?
No! There are racing opportunities for all skiing abilities. You are really racing against yourself and can go through the course at your own pace.
Do I have to go on one of our western ski trips to participate?
No! We will have opportunities for you to race both locally in Wisconsin as well as on our western trips.
How do the rewards work?
The Race Rewards Program will award each category of women and men racers in Elite, A, B, C, and Novice that have placed either first or second in their respective class at the end of the season. LSSC Reward Certificates will be given out to be cashed in for a club event or trip in the following amounts:
$35 race reward certificates for women and men who have placed first in their class.
$25 race reward certificates for women and men who have placed second in their class.
How do I qualify?
To qualify, a person must race in at least two trip races during a ski season. The total points of a racer's two best races will be used to compute his or her year end standing. If a trip is cancelled, trip members who have signed up prior to cancellation will receive credit for participation in a club race, but no points will be awarded.
